The local area is well served for races in the next month: the annual Hitchin Hard Half Marathon (H3M) is run on Sunday 26th June, whilst a new race based in Letchworth kicks off a fortnight later on Sunday 10th July 2016
The run around the garden sees Letchworth Garden City's roads closed off to traffic for the first time for a few traffic-free races:
Being "on-road" courses based around the town, the courses are blissfully flat compared to the Hitchin Hard Half which precedes them which means that it's a fast course: those aiming for a personal best (PB) over the 5km distance will love it.
The run around the garden is wheelchair friendly.
With North Herts Road Runners (NHRR) taking a lead role in organising the events, the 5Km will be an official run under the auspices of the Association of Running Clubs (ARC).
Both of the main races take place on a similar route, so are timed to start an hour apart:
The starting point is the same for both: Leys Avenue.
Both courses then go onto Eastcheap joining Broadway by the Broadway cinema, running past the gardens then up Broadway.
The 1 mile course goes up Broadway almost up to Souberie Avenue before returning down Broadway, round the other side of the gardens, and back to Leys Avenue.
The 5km course is very similar, just extending up Broadway as far as Sollershot Circus (the world's first roundabout) before doubling back.
The children's fun run starts at 11am.
Entries for the run around the garden races are now open you can register online here.
Entry for the 5km race costs £6 whilst entry for the 1mile race costs just £3.
